Jedi Mind Tricks（简称JMT）一开始是由来自费城的Vinnie Paz和制作人Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind(简称Stoupe)组成，99年招募了来自新泽西的Jus Allah，发行了第二张专辑<Violent by Design>。如果你是Hardcore Rap的乐迷，就应该很熟悉他们，从96年发行的第一张EP<Amber Probe>和97年的第一张专辑<The Psycho-Social CD> 到现在已经十五年了，Vennie Paz自己都在感叹：“We’ve been fortunate to have a 15-year run, which could’ve never happened without our fans! ” 的确，粗粝的鼓点，阴暗的旋律，暴力的歌词，凶狠的Flow以及他们对hiphop音乐不变的观点和态度给乐迷留下了深刻的印象。
<Violence Begets Violence>这张专辑是他们的第七张录音室专辑，这也是第一张没有Stoupe制作的专辑，Vennie Paz在博客上说到Stoupe,“他失去了对hiphop音乐的激情，去制作别的音乐了。”歌迷开始担心这张专辑的质量，没有了Stoupe，这还是以前那个JMT吗？看来Jedis们需要一点新的Tricks了。于是Vennie向歌迷保证到：“别担心，经典的hardcore JMT shit将会在十月二十五日发行，相信我，15年来我从没让你们失望过，让我们从怀疑中获益，用包容的心态去听！现在的音乐圈太疯狂了。”
确实如此，这张专辑没有让我们失望。。。
整张专辑十四首歌，Vennie Paz继续保持着他肆虐的状态，他给自己起的绰号“O’Drama Bin Laden”完全符合他在这张专辑中的状态，他在专辑中的表现也是无可挑剔，punchlines ，叙事，都保持着很高的水准，而且一直被忽略的Jus Allah在专辑中也很出彩，终于去掉了featuring Jus Allah，他也正式成为了JMT的一员，所以Jedi变成Jedis了。
废话不多说，先来听听”Burning the Mirror”这首，C-Lance做了一个很“一般”的Beat做铺垫，但是Jedis不一般，看看歌词就知道。
Paz: “I’m Kool G. Rap, Kaczynski and God wrapped in one
I keep a stupid bitch around me just to stash the gun
Fuck a crucifix, I’ll use it just to stab a nun
What y’all have did is incomparable to what Paz has done
I’m Black Sabbath, you savages get a lashing tongue
I’m black magic and ravenous, you a passive crumb
I’m a Russian AK and youse a gatling gun
I only listen to black metal and raps from Pun”
Allah: “My babysitter hung herself, I was way too young to help
There’s no way I coulda lifted her and strung the belt
Wish she coulda gave me somethin else, cruel summer
But I’m always elated to meet the newcomers
I like to stare at models, to compare brothels
Puttin air in bottles, sharin pot and Aristotle
With the baddest dime, inhalin the traffic line
And we don’t talk about pastimes and astral signs”
专辑的客串阵容也很给力，Official Pistol Gang的成员Demoz献声”When Crows Descend Upon You”，Army of the Pharaohs的成员King Magnetic献声”Imperial Tyranny”，Outsidaz的Pacewon和Young Zee，Fu-Schnickens的Chip Fu，他们发挥的都很出色。
“Chalice”一曲充满了弄弄的Carribean味道，旋律十分优美，但Vennie Paz没有丝毫地变柔和的意思。
Paz: “Everybody think it’s sweet is now Obama out here
He the third cousin of Bush, he lyin out here
You the lamb, I’m the motherfuckin lion out here
Where were y’all when my step-father dyin last year?
I’m once in a lifetime, Hailey’s Comet out here
Gods and Earths and more as we Islamic out here, yeah”
来说说制作吧，Stoupe走了，但是专辑依然这么好听，依然JMT，是因为这些制作人做了Stoupe该做的事，首先是Nero，听听”Blood Born Enemy”吧，阴森恐怖的旋律很像灾难片的配乐，加上Vennie Paz粗粝的嗓音，炼狱般的情节呈现在了眼前，This is not only hardcore .This is horrocore …副歌伴随着Scratch，引用了Rakim “Casualties of War”中的一句”Cause I got a kill or be killed kind of attack”，非常到位。其次是Shuko制作的一曲”Weapon of Unholy Wrath”，成功的扮演了Stoupe的角色，冰冷冷的合成器让人想起了早期的Havoc和Alchemist。C-Lance在”Willing a Destruction Onto Humanity”也找到了状态，清晰的鼓和优美的采样融合的很完美。
也许没有歌迷们期待的惊喜，没有了Stoupe，JMT还能做出这样一张专辑实属不易，延续了JMT以往的风格，专辑本身也比较耐听，从Intro到最后真是越听越好听，Jedis们没有让歌迷失望，希望他们能继续保持下去。
